Daily Sorcery: Keeping Witchy Habits

As a sorcerer, one of the most frequent questions I've gotten over the years is, "how do I get into Magick?" There are a thousand answers to that question, all of them (well, most of them) equally valid. But one of the ways I've found that works best for most people is to introduce it slowly, building habits and a daily routine. Bearing that in mind, let's look at some of these habits. I recommend, if you are just starting out, pick just one of these and focus on it for a month. Once you've established that habit, pick another and add it on. Adding small habits this way is the best way to build yourself up while avoiding overload.

  1. Meditation: a few minutes of simple meditation a day is a great way to clear your mind, calm yourself, and release stress. There are a myriad of other benefits of meditation, but we won't dive into those here.

  2. Offerings: Make it a point to make a quick offering daily. Just a stick of incense or a candle, nothing major, directed at your deities, guardian spirits, local spirits, or just the universe in general. It's also a good idea to make a bigger offering weekly, such as adding a glass of wine, shot of liquor, slice of cake, etc. If you smoke, you can offer the cigarette smoke every time you light up, though some beings prefer their own cigarette.

  3. Cleansing: A cleansing shower is a great way to wash away the spiritual grime that builds up over the day. This doesn't have to be an elaborate thing, just a quick prayer when you step into the shower. However, you can take this further with fumigation, Aspersion, or other cleansing practices.

  4. Setting Intentions: Ok, this is a little vague, I know. But I didn't see the point in splitting hairs, so here we are. When you're making your morning coffee or afternoon tea, you can transform your brew into a simple potion by focusing your mind while you're stirring, or simply gazing at, your drink. Something simple like "I will have good luck today" or "I will be shielded from harm" is best, but you can experiment a bit with your options. On the same token, you can set intentions while you clean. While sweeping or mopping, it would be a great idea to set intentions to sweep out sadness, anger, resentment, etc and sweep in love, peace, happiness, and so on.

  5. Carrying Talismans: One of my personal favorite things, you can carry talismans in your pocket or wear them as jewelry to draw and repel different effects. Personally, I generally have at least four different talismans on me at all times, but some may choose to carry only one and some may decide to fit in dozens. I like to avoid overloading myself, but to each their own.

That's enough to get you started for now. I encourage you, if you're interested in getting into the practice, to try these things, and if you have any questions, we're an email away!
