Mystical Armor: Personal Protection

Yesterday, we talked about protecting your home with wards and alarms. Today, we will look at personal protection with talismans and other things.

My favorite method of protection is to keep my local spirits, ancestors, and spirit guardians happy. A simple offering practice is often more than enough to keep these spirits happy and fed, and I've discussed this before a number of times. But there are other ways to protect yourself, my next favorite of which is protection talismans. The most common form is the religious symbol, such as the crucifix, pentagram, triquetra, etc. Symbols of faith act as natural protection symbols even without consecration simply due to the faith they represent and receive. But beyond this, there are a number of common talismans you can make or find easily. Some of these are:

Hamsa hand: typically taking the form of a hand with an eye in the center, this charm and it's cousin, the evil eye (often a blue and white eye) are often worn or hung in the home to repel the evil eye and evil spirits

Silver dimes: being made of silver, these old dimes are often used in conjure as a simple protection charm

Garlic cloves: carried to repel evil spirits, particularly vampires (ala dracula)

Hag stones: rocks with natural holes in them, hag stones are carried as powerful protection charms

Spell Bags: spell bags such as mojo hands and gris gris bags are commonly made for protection. One simple version of this would be to add to a black pouch a piece of black tourmaline, an acorn, some dragons blood, some sage, cedar, and lavender, and then sealing it closed

Aside from talismans, there are a number of oils worn for protection. Anointing yourself with these oils confers their protection onto you. Some of the best known oils are:

Fiery wall of protection

Ogun protection oil

Saint Michael oil

Seven African powers oil

All of these can easily be found online, as can their recipes.

Certain crystals are also useful for protection. There are many of these, with some of the most common (and some of my personal favorites) being:

Obsidian

Black tourmaline

Hematite

Amethyst

Tiger's eye

Citrine

Finally, there are a number of protection incantations you can use when you feel you need protection, when you leave the house, or when you feel you are being attacked. You can create your own, or find one that suits you better than these, but some simple incantations that you can chant are:

Archangel Michael Invocation

"Michael to the right of me

Michael to the left of me

Michael above me

Michael below me

Michael within me

Michael all around me

Michael, with your flaming sword of cobalt blue please protect me today."

Egyptian Deities Invocation

"My mother is Isis

Nephthys is my nurse

Neith is behind me

Selket is before me"

Elemental Incantation

"Wall of stone, turn away all evil

Wall of water, cleanse all negativity

Wall of air, purify all darkness

Wall of fire, burn away all negativity"

A Winter Protection

"May the water rise around me and become a wall of ice

May the ice stop all weapons turned against me

May the icicles harm all who try to harm me

May the blizzard blind my enemies

And may the snow hide my tracks from those who would follow me"

There are nearly infinite options for protecting yourself with Magick, and these only scratch the surface. But I hope they give you a good starting point!
