Working with a Guru

It is a widely known fact that there is only so far you can go in spiritual work on your own. Eventually, you will want to work with a guru, teacher, or mentor of some kind, not only to test and sharpen your skills, but to understand things that you may have missed when you were studying alone. When it comes to the path I walk, there is extra benefit to having a guru.

In the first place, initiating under a guru places you under their spiritual coverage. This means that you will be protected from things that would ordinarily hinder your progress, and mistakes made during your practice will be covered by the guru's energy.

Secondly, your guru can answer questions you have and give you guidance. Additionally, your guru can give you advice on other things you can study to deepen your understanding.

Third, your guru acts as the embodiment of all previous gurus and spiritual guides and guardians of the path. In so doing, your guru gives you access to the complete wisdom of the lineage to help overcome your struggles.

Now, all of this is not to say your guru is perfect. No, your guru is human, and your guru has their own struggles. You may disagree with your guru politically, socially, or in other ways. But, this does not mean your guru can't help you. In fact, your guru will likely feel these things out beforehand to determine if you should study with them, or if they should recommend you to someone else.

All in all, working with a guru is a powerful way to accelerate your spiritual growth and gain access to things that outsiders would not be able to learn.
